Your thoughts on TrueCrypt?

I would appreciate application like truecrypt, but what I didn't like when I installed were:

1. It doesn't come from any repos it's just tar.gz with executable file, so I can't be really sure it's safe to install it(fact that it has PGP signature does good )

2. But what I really didn't liked was, when it asked me for my password it throwed out it's own window!

It's funny that application is considered to make your system more secure, but doesn't really give very secure notion about itself!

So guys tell me, please, who are using truecrypt and what you think about it?

You might listen to Cafe Ninja's podcast on TrueCrypt. I think it will answer a lot of your questions.

I have never used TrueCrypt, but he uses it regularly.

Works good to keep the kids out.

I doubt any is NSA or Chinese proof. A few super computers can get past the known flaws in AES.

Thanks for answers, I don't really doubt the security of encryption algorithms of TrueCrypt, what I really didn't like was that it asked me to insert password of my system in window that is made by TrueCrypt application itself, if I do this, application can basically take my password and send it to TrueCrypt developers who then can access my system and decrypt all the data or give information to all the instances from which I am protecting myself by using TrueCrypt

I know that might sound too much like a conspiracy, but, hey if you use TrueCrypt, you must be a bit that kind of a guy or a girl

P.S. I didn't liked much CafeNinja's podcast, for the technical podcast he delivered unbelievably small amount of information, first 15 minutes of his podcast were some ordinary government conspiracy shit, which was annoying because I had to listen to that to catch where he starts to talk about application itself and despite that I liked tone of his voice he stopped after every two words so it made his speech almost unbearable!
