Question Yet another GRUB problem

My problem is simple... I've been using Mandrake as a distro since version 8.2. I always used GRUB as a bootloader because I knew Lilo can't boot partitions that cross the 1024 cylinder limit. With the latest Mandrake distros (10.0) I have this huge problem with GRUB: keeps saying something about the BIOS and the 1024 cylinder limit (the Lilo problem). This never happened before. I even got to install GRUB with a MDK 10.0 OE distro (somehow), and not get that syupid error. Lilo works fine, but i simply hate it , graphical or not.

So, how can I get GRUB to ignore the 1024 cylinder limit? And no, I don't have a /boot partition, and no, I won't create one.

Post exact error message you receive.
I guess that some of your partitions are not marked with LBA flag. Small intervention in fdisk could solve your problem.

Ok, it says something like this: "Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS" when I try to manually load the kernel (kernel (hd0,0)/boot/...). I've installed grub with the --force-lba option. Wasn't it supposed to work? And how do I set the LBA flag with fdisk?

Try to enable LBA in your BIOS. Its usually a setting and available on anything newer than a P-133
