For what it's worth, maybe you will need to know down the line - xp will install on a hard drive as a slave, with Linux on another drive as the master. Mine is installed that way.
You may or may not be interested in doing this, but I installed Linux on one drive all by itself, and xp on another drive all by itself. While installing Linux, the ribbon cable was on that hard drive only. While installing xp, the ribbon cable was on the other hard drive only. When I want to boot an os, I go into cmos and just change the boot order. It's not that difficult, if you can find the Del key (or whatever enters bios on your comp).
This may not be as easy as dual booting from a mbr, but you'll never see me posting for boot help due to this problem (which is constantly posted). I prefer to keep my sweet little Linux hard drive pure and undefiled from my windoze hard drive (just a personal opinion).
