Yast2 Locks machine

When Yast2 is opened in my SuSE Linux 7.3 Professional setup, most of the options seem to work, but when I click on Network/ Basic, the message "Yast2 is initializing" comes on, the Num Lock and Caps Lock lights on the keyboard flash, and the keyboard is locked. It stays locked, no matter how long I wait.

I have a USB Cable modem that the system autodetects, but it does not find the ethernet card, a D-Link DFE 530TX, for which I have downloaded the driver recommended by SuSE. The "ifconfig eth0" command gives the hardware address of the cable modem, but no IP addresses. My service does use DHCP, so that may be why.

The internet access in Windows (on the same machine) works fine.

Any help on this subject wil be much appreciated

DBS
