Yahoo Messenger or ICQ on FreeBSD?

I've just installed FreeBSD 5.1 on my com. I'm wondering...is there any messenger (Yahoo!, ICQ and MSN) that can be use in it?
Where can i get it? And how do i install and run it?

Hey. You can download Gaim messenger (Yahoo, AIM, MSN, ICQ, many others) from gaim.sf.net
You install it simply by downloading the RPM file to your computer and double clicking it, and then use the find files to find it and copy the gaim executable file to your desktop.

You can install it through the ports or package system. If you are not compiling from source, you could probably install it through the package manager. Type "pkg_add -r gaim". That should work. If it doesn't, post a response.

You can download any of them, but for the best results, you should download the Fedora core 1 ones, and then try both of them. I find that every time I install it, a different one works, so try both.
Here are the links
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/g...6.rpm?download
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/g...6.rpm?download
So, if you need more help, just ask.....

k, you click the link, and then select the Save or Save To Disk option on the popup window. Then you select a source (usually /home/desktop or /root/desktop if your running root), and click ok. When the download is complete you can go to that directory, or to your desktop if you saved it there, and double click on the file (don't use Konsole, its much harder). Then a window will come up, read it and click yes or no, usually yes. When its done, use the find files app to find the file name gaim. Its usually in the /usr/bin or /usr/sbin directory. Copy (not move) that file to the desktop or the menu, or both, and then double click it to open gaim. Everything from there is pretty easy.

FreeBSD supports RPMs?

If I remember right from my brief usage, it does suppot RPMs. When it asks you what program to open it with, type in "install" without the "".

If you could point me to the download mirror you used to get freeBSD, I can download it and find out exactly how to do it for you. But I would recommend going to Mandrake as it is great!

Yes, Gaim 7.5 does NOT work with Yahoo messenger at this time for some unknown reasons, but the developers are working towards a solution. Check gaim.sourceforge.net or gaim.sf.net for updates.
But unfortunately, Yahoo Mesenger for Linux/Unix and its variants does not work very well. File transfers are limited to I beleive 100mb (althought it may be slightly more), you can only have a few conversation windows open before it starts to chew through system resources, and its pretty slow. So, switch to AIM, MSN, ICQ, or Napster.
