Well you can't. According to Yahoo's site, they have only truly developed up to version 8.0.

May I suggest GAIM, which is a suitable alternative and is actually better at supporting chatting thru Yahoo than Yahoo's actual client.

There is not an official yahoo messenger's rpm for red hat 9.0, but you can try "gaim" instead.

I use gyach for yahoo. I have never used Gaim, so I can't compare, but I do like gyach. I do not know if they have RPM's for it, but it might be worth a look.
