Yahoo Messenger

HI there,

I recently downloaded Yahoo Messenger from Yahoo. It was the latest release. For the longest time it worked perfectly fine, now however when I try to load it it doesn't. I tried loading it from the command line and even the desktop icon and it just doesn't work anymore.

I get something saying "Segmentation Fault" when I try it from the command line. I don't like using Everybuddy so that would not be a good alternative.

- Thanks

Well, I don't like gaim that much as that it is too texty. I do like the graphical emoticons that Yahoo has to offer. Thanks

Well, I tried and to load it and now how do I set it up?

What is the following:

Pager Host: scs.msg.yahoo.com
Japan Pager Host: cs.yahoo.co.jp
Pager Port: 5050
File Transfer Host: filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com
Japan File Transfer Host: filetransfer.msg.yahoo.co.jp
File Transfer Port: 80
Chat Room List Url: http://insider.msg.yahoo.com/ycontent/

and Proxy Type setting: Use Environmental Settings

It came with the defaults listed above, I tried to log on but it won't let me. Or do I have to have for my screen name as yahoo_name@yahoo.com for it to load up? MSN works fine, just the Yahoo one.

BTW, sorry about dising gaim, but it was less primative a while back, but I do kind of like it.

And just incase my distro is Mandrake 10.1 Community Edition NOT 9.1 as stated on the sidebar..

these are the options which are not of much use
u need not fill these options

I've had many of the same problems with yahoo. They said that the pager host is csa.yahoo.com, but there are many questions I have. I basically need help with the "More options" on Gaim with a yahoo account. If some body could tell me what the setting on the pager host and port, file transfer host and port, and the proxy settings for a yahoo account that would be great.
Thank you

No, I'm not having problems with yahoo messenger itself. I'm having problems with the settings needed for yahoo messenger in Gaim. If you could tell me the settings from top to bottom, that would be great. Thank you!

Try opening port 5050 and port 80 in your firewall settings. That should help

Hey I have a not too similar problem. I've downloaded the ymessenger_1.0.4_1_i386.deb package and tried to install it as per the dpkg command given for it on the yahoo page. I've installed all but two packages through Synaptic's graces and have this left:

Unpacking ymessenger (from ymessenger_1.0.4_1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of ymessenger:
ymessenger depends on libssl0.9.6; however:
Package libssl0.9.6 is not installed.
ymessenger depends on xlibs (>> 3.3.6); however:
Package xlibs is not installed.
dpkg: error processing ymessenger (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
ymessenger

now I can't find xlibs straight up through Synaptic nor have I been able to find libssl0.9.6 (i have 0.9.7 and 0.9.8 installed) in it. I've xlibs-dev installed (7.0.0-0ubuntu45) but not whatever version it wants (which I can't find in Synaptic beyond libxsharp and a few others that don't look like what it wants.

Any help with this?
