Xwindows stuck in screen saver mode

Ok, my power just flicked off then back on and when my desktop booted back up and I ran startx it loads xwindows into screensaver mode and it's all jacked up, I can't get out of it, no way to log out of xwindows either, only way to shut it down is by killing the processes so how do I clear all xwindows cache or what not so this will stop happening because of right now im locked out of xwindows.

Just for future reference, pressing ctrl+alt+backspace will kill your x windows session. It's not the fix but it will get you out of your dilemma!
