XWindows & fonts : not always nice display
I'm using linux for many years, but I still have not got around the font problem :
I use various applications ( Lyx, openoffice, thunderbird, opera, nautilus,...) In many of them, I have to manually fine tune the fonts to have them displayed correctly, not pixelized. Surprisingly, I have everything fine tuned under gnome now, but if I switch to KDE, every thing has to be done again. Don't do they use the same font manager ? Why windows can manage all fonts correctly and not XWindows ? Does it have to do with truetype or opentype ? |
Windows manages fonts correctly? Since when?

I'm having the same problem bahramH... I've only been using Linux for about 2 weeks and the fonts are starting to drive me crazy. I'm running SuSe 9.1 Pro with the KDE gui which defaults everything to Sans Serif. Any experienced user's have tips for newbs like me who just want their fonts to look like they did on Windows?

You could install the truetype fonts, which are the ones Windows uses. I might give this a try once I finish reading this. I'm halfway through reading that right now, it seems like it should help our font problems.
