XviD converter (and splitter?)

Hi,

I searched the whole net for a program like this on linux but couldn't find anything
It doesn't matter if it's GUI or CLI (ofcourse a nice GUI is always preferred)

What I want is this:
- Convert XviD/DivX into SVCD (MPEG1, so my DVD player can run it as well)
- I want a tool that can split a .avi/.mpeg file into peaces (for example, instead of one file 700MB I want 2x 350MB)

I hope you people have experience with this kind of programs and can help me

Greetz,
AliTriX

And keep in mind: recoding is potential loss of quality. Why not buy a decent DVD player capaple playing MPEG-4? Some have ethernet ports so you can play movies from your home server.

Simon, tnx for the tip I will try to use it

Emerson, yes that's right but if I buy a DVD player and my friends try to borrow some DVD's fro me then they can't play them
I know, in a few years you will find a Media Center in each house (instead of a DVDplayer) in that case it won't be a problem anymore

Btw, a XviD is much smaller then a MPEG1 , while the quality is much better it's so bad that not any DVD player can play them would cost me less CD costs
