xv only if i startx as root

hey all,

this came up in another thread about DVD playback - i have discovered that i can only access xv for dvd playback if i startx as root.

if i startx as a user even root cannot use xv for DVD playback. i can use vidix as root whoever starts X but I can only use xv as root if i startx with root.

i have started a new thread cos this has less to do with DVD and more to do with X permissions.

any ideas?

Hey,
I was going to install Xorg on a VL4.0 laptop to try and help you
but I couldn't get it to make World.
I did notice though that by default it does not build setuid as Xfree does.
On an Xfree system you will find /usr/X11R6/bin/xfree86 is setuid.
I don't know what the executable for Xorg is called but look for it in
/usr/X11R6/bin and see if it is setuid.

Of course this assumes that you built from source with no modifications.
