xterm color scheme

hi there:

i have been trying to customise the colors of xterm but with limited success. my solution at the end is to put

xterm -bg black -fg green

at the menu file of my flux box.

but what i would like to do but failed is using things like .xtermrc.

i have tried using .xtermrc and .Xdefault and even tried editing the XTerm-color. nothing seems to work, however, editing the XTerm-color changes the color scheme of uxterm. i am lost....

can anyone point me to the right track?

cheers
