Question XServer Resolution limited to 1024x768?

Hi all,

After a day of googling, I find that while resolution errors are fairly common, none of the solutions provided did me any good. The issue I'm having is while using Xfree86 (not X.Org) on Debian, I can't seem to get higher than 1024x768 resolution, even though my videocard (nvidia GeForce FX 5200) and monitor can handle it. XrandR reports a number of potential resolutions, but the highest is 1024x768. My XFree86Config-4 file has the following screen section:

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "GeForceFX 5200"
Monitor "Digiview"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 1
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 4
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 15
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Well, thanks for your time. Hopefully someone more experienced can help me figure it out.

It may be able to handle it, just not at Depth 24.

try adding
Depth 12
Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768"
EndSubSection
and change the "DefaultDepth" param to 12

cheers

I think the refresh rate depends on the HSync and VSync values too. Make sure that they are according to the ones mentioned in your monitor's manual.
