I just got done with a Stage 1 installation of Gentoo. Right now I'm trying to get X to work (and eventually kde). I've emerge'd everything I need, and have made all the necessary configuration changes, however when I try and start the server, I'm greeted with a nice fatal error message:
"Cannot run in framebuffer mode. Please specify bus IDs for all framebuffer devices"
Simply, what I'm asking is, what causes this, and how do I fix it?
My laptop has an integrated graphics processor (Intel 855GM). Thanks in Advance
I had the same problem, but I configured my kernel without frame buffer support try.. the following
You have to configure Xserver, before you #startx
do ->#whereis xorgconfig
that should give you the location of xorgconfig,
run xorgconfig and set up your Xserver according to your requirements and
you are good to go.. [Please refer your monitor specsheet, for refresh rates and stuff, as you'll need them during your the process..]
-->#xorgconfig

I've been using linux for nearly a year now, mostly relying on the simpler distributions, but now I'm finally starting to move into the harder stuff. It feels pretty good to know something most people my age couldn't even fathom.
