Xserver & tt fonts

I tried installing and running kylix. It causes X to crash. When I try to run wine it crashes also. In X.org0.log I get this:

(II) Loading sub module "ISO8859_1"
(II) LoadModule: "ISO8859_1"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/codeconv/libISO8859_1.a
(II) Module ISO8859_1: vendor="X-TrueType Server Project & After X-TT Project"
compiled for 6.7.0, module version = 1.4.2
Module class: X.Org Font Renderer
ABI class: X.Org Font Renderer, version 0.4

This should not happen!
An unresolved function was called!

Fatal server error:

From what it looks like to me when it loads the ISO8859_1 modules X crashes. I am running slackware 10.0 with 2.6.9 kerel and X Window System Version 6.8.1.99. Has anyone else run into this? I use cedega all the time without any problems.
