xscreensaver touble

Hello I have been having problems with the xscreensaver. It seems to randomly lock up and kill my keyboard and mouse. The only recourse has been to reboot the system. I would like to know how to stop the xscreensaver as it seems to be loaded automatically at startup. I am using SUSE 9 pro with kde 3.1.4. Any help is appreciated.

"I would like to know how to stop the xscreensaver as it seems to be loaded automatically at startup."

The screensaver is set up by each user individually. Run kcontrol. You will find the screen saver setup under "Appearance & Themes".

well I have disabled screensavers in the kde control center but still xscreensaver pops up at every bootup!! the information I have been able to gather about the process is the following
Process screensaver -nosplash
Parent process init

so how would I go about getting rid of xscreensaver permanently?

I am not sure. Two area to look at are:

YaST2 may have a section for setting up xscreensaver.

You might be able to get rid of xscreensaver by uninstalling it with:
rpm -e xscreensaver

I solved the problem. It seems there were two separate processes, kde-screensavers and xscreensavers. I uninstalled both with Yast and voila no screensavers any more and no more lockups :)
