Xscreensaver & Glmatrix
I saw these two apps displayed on the Screensavers (Xscreensaver & Glmatrix) ,They were runing them in Debian. The Xscreensaver allows the 3d Glmatrix to be run as wallpapper,it provideds a very interesting and cool desktop inviroment. The trouble is that I'm very new to linux ,and havn't had much luck with .tar.gz files ,the Glmatrix is a .lha file. I tried this in redhat to no avail and now in Mandrake 10. I think Debian would be out of reach to install and use to me just yet,So if there is anyone out there ,who has installed these packages in Mandrake ,could they please give a tutoral, I would sure appreciate it. Thanks
I am interested in doing the same thing, however when you download the file and uncompress it with lha the readme file talks about the software being compatible with 68k and powerpc? Has anyone else successfully set this up?

Hi Santner, found out somthing else ,Glmatrix , is included in xscreensaver, in Fedora Core. However I had to get rid of Fedora ,because I couldn,t get it on line, wrong driver for my network card. I even installed red hat first, got it on line, then upgraded to fedora, same proplem. If anyone knows of a workaround this please let me know, couldn't find a way to change drivers for the card like, you can for sound etc. So if Fedora works for you,all you have to figure out is how to get Xscreensaver to run as wallpapper (beyond me at this point) I can't even get it to start up with any Linux I've tried,as i said I'm new to Linux, and fairly new to computing as well. Regards
I have windows running now, so I can't check specificially. You need to run the bianary glmatrix directly with the -root option. so open up the run command and put in like this
Code:
/path/to/glmatrix -root
I think it is in /usr/X11/xscreensaver , something like that( I am guessing)
