xorgconf: can't create rules structure

When I call "xorgconf" from console it briefly shows a window popping up and vanishing again (too fast to read anything) and then the screen reads "xorgconf: can't create rules structure".

man xorgconf didn't help (no section for errors) and I couldn't find any configuration files in /etc/X11/... either. Anybody knows what's happening here?

The config file should be /etc/X11/xorg.conf. If it isn't there, try 'locate xorg.conf' to find it on your system.

I had no trouble running xorgconfig when I gave the full path: /usr/X11R6/bin/xorgconfig.

Red face

Yes, /etc/X11/xorg.conf is there and works -- more or less (look here, if you are interested: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi....php?t=394426).

I'll try it with the full path but my hope is a little vacillating, the error is so, ahm, undocumented .

<edit> BTW. I think I made a mistake here, but I'm not at my box right now. I think it was xorgcfg not xorgconf ... I'll check tonight.

<edit#2>Yes, it was xorgcfg. Bugger it all, I'll have to start a new thread. Sorry, Jeremy .
