I'm having similar problems on my dv5003cl. I'm curious if you're also using amd64 builds; I'm seeing indications in various forums that the problems aren't manifesting in the 32-bit builds.

(I've coped, for now, by turning off the synaptics driver in my xorg.conf and just using the ps/2 mouse driver instead, but it's not a great solution.)

I am using AMD64, so maybe I'll try out a 32-bit version on a spare partition and see if that makes a difference. It's really annoying not be able to confidently do work on my notebook without think ing that I may have to restart X to get my Touchpad working properly again (for a while).

I'll let you know what happens with a 32-bit distro.

bcm43xx and touchpad

Okay, I think I figured out a reason for the Touchpad losing sync. On my HP dv5000, it was caused by an interupt conflict with my bcm43xx module. I stumbled upon this revelation, but then I checked it by doing "sudo rmmod bcm43xx" and sure enough, the error "psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync at byte 1" (etc, etc) goes away.

So, a new problem. As long as you need wireless, you're Touchpad will have this conflict. I'm curious as to how other people set up their wireless. My did not work out of the box with Ubuntu Dapper, and so I had to use bcm43xx-fwcutter to get it to work. Perhaps using ndiswrapper would fix the problem? I'll explore and report.

I do use ndiswrapper with a win driver, adn have no problem at all.

Odd that it would cause an irq error... but the silly nature of laptops.. makes them a pain.

Something that seems to help is to pass the kernel parameter "psmouse.proto=imps"...will continue to test it.
