xorg no screen found??

Alright well im having a problem with xorg and starting into my x server. I get this error "no screens found". When i go into the /etc/X11/xorg.conf the file is empty nothing in it. No devices whatsoever. I have a ati 9700 aiw and i tried searching for a solution to this but no help. I took out my video card and tried the onboard graphics card but that didnt work either. Does anyone have any idea on what i can do to solve this problem. Thanks.

well if there is nothing in the file then thats why there is
an error, cause it has nothing to load ...
run :
Code:
xorgconfig
and reconfigure, and try again. cause you have to have
something in that file for X to work.

you could try Xorg -configure
which it automatically configures itself for you, or you could try /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config, which will help you configure your X.
K I think it works??
and are you installing Gentoo??

I tried xorg -configure but there are many errors
i cant seem to copy the log file to my floppy and ontp my laptop it says: FAT unable to read inode block for updating (i_pos 321)

Anyways when i view some of the errors are
symbol drmmap from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/via_drv.o is unresolved

there are alot of the messages pertaining to modules/drivers

What do i need to do?
