Xorg installation failure

I was trying to install kopete and in order to install kopete is says it needed X includes. So thinking I new what I was doing, I downloaded and installed xfree86. I came to found out that what I need is Xorg and more specifically just the devel file. To make a long story short, I can't seem to completely remove XFree 86 so I can reinstall Xorg and the Xorg-x11-devel. It is a huge pain. I can no longer boot into X so I am doing everything by command line. Any help would be much appreciated. I would hate to have to format and start over. Thanks again

Have you tried make uninstall in the directory where you extracted the files.

This assumes their is a make uninstall target, which may or may not exist.

no, the location where I installed it to doesn't except that command. In order to install it I had to:
"sh Xinstall.sh" where Xinstall.sh is the file that installs everything.
