Xorg freezes on Gentoo
Hi,
I have a *slight* problem with my Gentoo installation, namely after I have finally emerged my whole system (including Xorg and KDE), I have tried to start an X server ( using startx, xinit, kdm,gdm etc...) Every single time this makes my screen go blank and unresponsive to any action... I may, though, log on from a different machine - and everything seems to be fine, besides it being impossible to make the screen responsive again... I am have just installed my Gentoo from stage 1 onwards, am running a 2.6.9 kernel and seem to be absolutely lost, any advice would be appreciated ;;-) Thanks... |
look at the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log, that should let you know a little more about it's downfall

Ok, that helped ::-) actually, it seems, that xorg couldn't find the mouse, as I told it to look for it in /dev/mouse, but since I have a 2.6.9 kernel with udev support, the mouse has moved to /dev/input/mice, which kind of confused the poor server ::-/ the X server seems to work fine now, thanks for the tip ::-)
