xmms unable to play cd's

I've been trying to play a music cd on my SuSE 10.0 system. I tried it first in xmms. It sees the directory media:cdrecorder but it cannot even "see" the files.
I've tried KsCD and it looks like it's playing but there's no sound.
Amarok cannot play it and neither can Kaffeine.

The only apps that work for playing cd's are noatun (if i've navigated to the directory in Konqueror first then choose "open with") and xine.

I'm wondering what xine and noatun are doing right and how I can get xmms to get it right also?

In xmms I have the cd audio player configured as:
device: /dev/cdrecorder
directory: /media/cdrecorder/

Digital audio extraction is selected and I've tried it as analog too without success. I've even clicked on "check drive" and it said it was ok, it could read that there is something in the drive but when I click on "play CD" nothing happens, not even a list. Like I've said, when I try to navigate to the directory where my CD player is, xmms sees the directory but not any files that it contains.

Like I said, there's no problem with playing nor sound when I try it in xine. I'm wondering what's wrong with xmms and the others I mentioned.

Try the following from an X terminal:

Code:

xmms /dev/cdrecorder

This is all I get:
/usr/lib/xmms/Visualization/libmadspin.so: undefined symbol: config_window
Message: device: default
Message: fmt 5, channels: 2

it goes to /mnt and there's nothing in the files section of the window. If I click on play, nothing happens.
