Well the thing is that i use xmms for my mp3 playback needs. What i want to ask is if anyone has the same problem as i do (if it is really a problem) and has found a solution for it. When i press the stop button in xmms while listening to an mp3 the music doesn't stop immediately but stops about 4-5 secs later. The same thing happens when i forward the song using the timebar or when i doubleclick another song while listening to one. This happened both in xmms 1.2.7 and 1.2.10 in Fedora,Mandrake and RedHat. I tried running xmms as root and setting realtime priority and that kind of fixed the problem since the respond time now is 1-2 secs. Is there another way of making xmms stop when i press the buttons and not later?
I am using Fedora Core 1 on a PIII 800MHz 256MB Ram.

You may want to experiment with the different output plugins. I usually use eSound and that, along with Alsa sound drivers, provide decent latency so the response is pretty quick.
