Xmms-shn

I have installed XMMS along with the XMMS-SHN input plugin. XMMS plays MP3s fine, but it won't play SHN files. I do not receive any error messages. When I try to open one, it doesn't load the file at all. Are there any other programs that can play SHN files or does anyone have any ideas about how to fix my XMMS plugin?

i'm pretty sure vlc plays shn files right out of the box (well, as long as ffmpeg is part of the package.)

i say 'pretty sure' because i don't have a .shn here to test, at the moment, though i have had them, and probably converted to mp3 (using ffmpeg) in order to stream them.

cheers,

I received the following error from vlc:

[shorten @ 0xb7f17ec8]missing shorten magic 'ajkg'

Any ideas?

from what i'm able to google about your error message, it appears your shn file is missing its header (apparently all shn headers begin with ajkg), which may explain why xmms wouldn't play it.

as far as fixes go, i didn't google that deeply. obviously, if ffmpeg can't 'play' it, then it probably can't convert it either.

cheers,
