xmms problem sound

when i start xmms and play some mp3 files it says
"couldn't open audio
please check that:
1.you have the correct output plugin selected
2.no other programs is blocking the sound
3.your soundcard is configured properly"
but when i click "ok" of the above dialogue box and the play button repetedly for 10 to 20 times the song plays fine.what could be the reason for this any ideas?i have even changed the output plugin from OSS to e-sound but the problm exist.i have intel 845 glly with onboard sound.in linux my soundcard is detected as ac_97audio.that's it.

If you area using your integrated AC'97 audio controlle it means in linux you will be able to play only one sound at a time. So if you are playing smth and then turn on XMMS it won't play ...
