XMMS playing in double/triple speed

New install of SuSE 8.2. I cannot play either MP3's or OGG's through XMMS, which seems to be really odd. RH is the only distro that I know of that stripped out support for any audio types, and that was only MP3's.

I've gone through the CD's and DVD for SuSE and installed just about everything that makes sense for xmms. Still won't play OGG's or MP3's. The behavior when playing these is the other odd part. XMMS acts like it is reading the files, but goes at 2x or 3x normal speed, maybe faster, but never makes a sound.

I've tested the sound card and SuSE sees and uses it correctly. This is weird.

Help!

Make sure you are using the right output plugin (in the xmms preferences).
Try arts if you're using KDE, esd/eSound if you're using gnome... etc.

I had a similar problem, then I changed to using arts output and everything is OK now. :)

Perhaps you're using the wave writer plugin?

After Mary's post I started digging around a little more than I had been up to that point and came across what you suggested, JSPenguin. The output was being sent to a wave writer, something I didn't know XMMS would do.

Thanks for the help. Now I don't have to listen to those annoying cell phones going off around me.
