XMMS permissions on user accts

I installed the source rpm with the mp3 plugins. I can play music as root, but not on my user accounts. I also have trouble hearing the sounds for 30 sec clips of mp3s. I can play full length mp3s though.

I have the latest XMMS player with the mp3 plugin. I am running RH 9. I tried check the group permissions in the user accounts setup, and it has no selection for audio.

I was wondering how I might give myself and others on the PC the ability to run XMMS and play mp3s.

I read Chris Negus RH 9 Bible, and some of the docs on the pages here. That is how I installed the RPM with the plugin.

Conditions:

It works only on root
Local users cannot even hear sounds
I tested my sound setup and it detects the sound card

I don't know what else to do. I have tried almost everything. I even when into etc/fstab and changed some of the settings, like a user said here. That was to enable functionality of the programs for users.

Thanks for the help

Thanks it worked

I did the cmod command in terminal as root and changed permissions and now it works on my user account as well as root accounts. You've been very helpful.

UK Radio

I am listening to UK radio stations. They have some good dance music on a Sat night. I also like di.fm thats a great dance site, and also m1live.com.

Now my brother doesn't have to nag me as much, so now he can play music.
