xmms keeps opening up its playlistloader

Hi, im a newbie, so please bear with me.

Ive got a problem with xmms and playing mp3s under SuSe9.3. Ive copied the mp3s as root to my users home folder (from a NTFS partition) and want to play them now. Realplayer can do it, but xmms cant. Ive set the permissions right as well, so that my user can play the files.

The problem is that xmms keeps opening up its playlistloader as soon as i doubleclick on a mp3, just as one would do in a windows enviroment.

(I must mention though that the xmms comes from the SuSE distroCDs and not downloaded, and that whenever realplayer plays an mp3, it plays them as if the processor was extremely overloaded. You hear it as constant hacking interruptions so randomly that you cannot follow the rhythm. AmaroK loads the mp3 but doesnt play them at all. Just sits there with the file loaded.)

What am i doing wrong?

XMMS brings up the 'open file' window if asked to play a file it doesn't know how to deal with.

First, open xmms, then hit Options->preferences. Look in the list of Audio I/O plugins for libmpg123; that's the plugin that plays mp3s.

If it's not there, see if it's installed someplace else on your computer. If so, link it to /usr/lib/xmms/Input in the same way as the other libraries.
Otherwise, use whatever distrobution method SuSe uses to grab the library.

(There are some licensing problems with .mp3, so some distros don't include a decoder.)
