umm this how my +dir dialog looks: http://members.lycos.co.uk/pinchiukas/xmms.jpg
the equalizer is in front (in case you didn't notice the problem). by the way, when i turn xmms off the equalizer is on, and when i run xmms again, it says it's on but i can't see it. i have to turn the equalizer off and then on again to make it visible :\. i use the xmms package from slackware current

check to see if you have the "Always on top" option turned on or not, if it is, turn it off(unless i just totaly misunderstood your problem)

I noticed some weirdness with xmms as well - If I have the playlist and equaliser displayed and all three bits stuck together just like I like it, and then close the app, it never remembers the configuration or the position of the window the next time I start. It seems to open all three panels, but it puts the playlist and equaliser somewhere else - possibly underneath an already open window. Maybe its the evilWM I'm using though.
