Several issues I'm having. I don't think they really involve XFCE much, but because that's the environment I'm using, I felt it necessary to include it.
The first problem is simple: XMMS is playing an Mp3 or sound of some sort. In a terminal, I'll extract a tar.gz file or bz2. Something that uses the CPU. Oops, there goes XMMS. It skips. Maybe even stops completely, or freezes.
I'm using ALSA 0.9.8 with the snd-intel driver (I have an NFORCE2 board). I have XMMS setup to use the ALSA plugin. In MDK, this is not an issue. I can extract the same file while listening to XMMS and not have it skip/stop/freeze.
Any ideas?
Second issue deals with gaim and xmms. I'll have some music playing and I'll receive a message. I setup gaim so it uses the Sound "by Command", the command being "aplay -D plug:dmix %s" as defined in:
Code:
#~.asoundrc
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmixer"
}
pcm.dsp0 {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmixer"
}
pcm.dmixer {
type dmix
ipc_key 1024
slave {
pcm "hw:0,0"
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_size 8192
#periods 128
rate 44100
}
bindings {
0 0
1 1
}
}
ctl.mixer0 {
type hw
card 0
}
The problem is that when I receive an IM (or gaim plays a sound), XMMS messes up. At first, the gaim-sound is just overlayed onto the music...like normal. Like I want it. Then, after a few seconds...XMMS just stops. It freezes. This happens especially when alot of sounds are played.
I'm not sure if it is affected by sounds from alternate sources. If that's the case, then it's not a gaim-central problem. But its a problem still.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
