Xmms

Suddenly XMMS isn't working now that I have switched from kde to gnome desktop. Tried to run xmms to play an mp3 and received the following error:

mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding
arts_init error: can't connect to aRts soundserver

Where do I begin the troubleshooting? Thanks.

try a different sound driver in your xmms preferences. there is a drop down list available.

try using a different sound system. if you have OSS installed, open xmms, go to prefs, find the section where it lists general audio plugins. Change output sound to OSS. you may have it arts. that might work.
