xine- no picture!

I've tried installing Mplayer, but i can't seem to get the other packages required. So, I'm still using xine, as Kaffine still gives some input problem. However, whenever i play video CDs, there is audio, but no video. I've tried going through the xine webpage, but i can't understand what is Xv and the other stuff. Please help.
