xine install question again
i followed the instruction from xine website when i tried to install xine
First unpack xine-lib, then: ./configure make install Make sure your /etc/ld.so.conf contains /usr/local/lib. this is where i got stuck, my /etc/ld.so.conf doesnt contain /usr/local/lib, what should i do? by the way, i picked up the following message after i typed in the 'make install' command. does the message mean anything important regarding installation problem i encounter. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Libraries have been installed in: /usr/local/lib/xine/plugins If you ever happen to want to link against installed libraries in a given directory, LIBDIR, you must either use libtool, and specify the full pathname of the library, or use the `-LLIBDIR' flag during linking and do at least one of the following: - add LIBDIR to the `LD_LIBRARY_PATH' environment variable during execution - add LIBDIR to the `LD_RUN_PATH' environment variable during linking - use the `-Wl,--rpath -Wl,LIBDIR' linker flag - have your system administrator add LIBDIR to `/etc/ld.so.conf' See any operating system documentation about shared libraries for more information, such as the ld(1) and ld.so(8) manual pages. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- thanks in advance |
if you're using redhat or another rpm friendly distro, you can build an rpm out of xine.
su into root and the shell terminal, cd to the directory where you downloaded xine, and use this command: rpm -ta *.gz use the wildcard only if the xine tarball is the only tarball in the directory you downloaded the tarball in. if it's not, use the full filename. rpm should build you the rpms and store them in /usr/src/redhat/RPMS. then it's just click the rpms to install them. |
thanks, i give it a shot
