Last night I attempted to install the latest version of Xine. Everything worked well.. However, apparently, my DVD drive was not configured properly. Attempting to configure my drive, I didn't set up the symbolic link properly. (Instead of linking to /dev/hdc I linked to /dev/CD-ROM1) Also (and I think this makes matters worse) attempting to fix the problem I went into /dev and deleted the DVD entry, figuring that it would delete the symbolic link.. Now whenever I insert a DVD into my DVD drive the drive attempts to read it and then spits it out. Is there anyway that I can undo what I have done (and get DVD's to run)? Also, I created other links for devices such as DVD1 et cetera. Is there anyway that I can see these links and delete them?

My next question is how do I swithc DMA mode on for my DVD drive?

My next question (and this is not related to DVD's or Xine) is how do I run KdAppfinder? I checked and it is installed, I just cannot find it anywhere on my computer..

you deleted /dev/dvd? that should be no problem as it's just a symlink (in rh 7.3 anyway). and creating a symbolic link to /dev/cdrom1 should be fine provide /dev/cdrom1 points to your dvd device. just recreate the symbolic link and make sure /dev/cdrom1 indeed points to your dvd drive.

as for as enabling dma, you need to log in as root (for rh 7.3 you do other distros may let you su into root) and use the command:
hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc

that will enable dma. just make sure /dev/hdc is your dvd drive. if you want to enable it automatically at boot, you'll need to put that command in a start up script.
