Xine Crashes On Startup

Hey guys - - I'm a n00b when it comes to Linux - ditched Windows after Vista Beta 2 obliterated some of my files during setup.

So I'm using Fedora Core 5 right now and have everything running to date. But I recently installed Xine via Livna and have a little problem - upon opening the program, Xine crashes after displaying the interface for two seconds and crashes Fedora with it. Fedora subsequently restarts and I can't get Xine to work. Is this a common problem? Is there a solution to this problem? Note that Mplayer works just fine.

My computer specs are listed in my siggy.

Try starting xine from a console and post the output here. When you run programs from the console and they crash you get info about them.

yes, xine tends to do that. I haven't figured out why. To get xine to work after it crashes I have to reboot. However, mplayer and mplayerplug-in work great with no such problems. You can get mplayer from freshrpms.

No go, but I am using MPlayer and XMMS now. Thanks for the help anyway!
