I don't know about Xine (which BTW is my favorite multimedia player on Linux) but there is mplayer plug-in that I use in Firefox. It works good. Maybe you can use it.

well i got it sorted hmm.. guest i should hunt more before asking questions in here anyhow...

For those of you that want to know how its done basically i am using mandrake ten what i did after googling around i found a GUI for xine called gxine which comes with a plugin for mozilla browser .. well i am using firefox but the plugin works perfectly with it ... this is what i did
downloaded rpm from here

http://rpm.pbone.net/
really good site for rpms
and install the file after installation is complete load up the progam from the mulitmedia menu then follow the step by step wizard of configuring it do not close it and it will ask about mozilla browser plugin which it will place plugin in there

go to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and you will see a file called "gxineplugin.so" or just do a search for it when you find it all you have to do is to link it to you're firefox plugin folder ... then load firefox up and type "about: plugins" without qotes and it will show you plugin name and information
