XGL not working properly

Hello, I recently installed ubuntu (edgy). I used the "envy" script 0.9.0 to install the ati drivers. It worked very well, I must say. I then installed XGL with the command line which was super simple. I made the start script and the login script. But when I try to run the xgl session, it loads but you can tell it's not working properly. For obivous reasons because I can't get the cube to work and things like that...but also when I start it up...you can see things like "artifacting" for lack of a better word. Also it's extremely sluggish and choppy. Anyways, I'm really frustrated because I followed the guides with a great attention to detail (the scripts and whatnot)...please help. I also installed beryl, but i haven't run it yet, it's just sitting there installed.

linux kernel 2.6.17-11-generic
flgrxinfo
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON X800 GTO Generic
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6286 (8.33.6)

XGL version 7.0.0..

Please someone help. I tried searching all over, but this seams like such a specific problem that not to many run into. Thanks in advance.

this is for the installation of your driver, use the proprietary drivers from ati : http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide

and this is for the beryl installation, skip the driver installation part and install beryl : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=291464

I have almost the same configuration (same kernel, ubuntu 6.10, Radeon Mob. 9600), I also had problems with the installation, you can check my post here : http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...t=beryl+ubuntu

I hope it works
