Hey all. I've recently been intrigued at the latest XFCE4 release and think it definitely has a bright future. One thing I'm hoping it has (but have yet to find it) is the ability to add icons, permanently, to the desktop. I've scoured the help files, www-google-com/linux and this forum as well. No luck. If anyone knows whether this is possible and, better yet, how to get it done, I'd be very greatful!

xfce4 doesn't have icons ATM but you can use idesk to have icons in the desktop

Ouchers. Any ideas whether they plan on implenting this feature in upcoming versions?

No. Oliver Fourdan has said that he hates desktop icons.

There is someone right now developing a desktop icons component for XFCE4 though, he hasn't released it yet. You can join the mailing list to stay tuned on that.

He's about to release a preview.
