xemacs font-lock

Hi,

I have question regarding syntax highlighting in XEmacs(possible the same as in emacs). I'm trying to get a variable to highlight everywhere in the code if it is declared ones. A bonus would be if it can be declared anywhere in the code since the language is non-procedural (Knowledge Fusion).

Thanks for any help.

hi there,

afaik you can define new syntax highlight patterns in emacs in two ways:

1. regular expressions
2. explicit strings

i think you need to hack into "emacs lisp" language to figure it out.

Thanx for the reply,

I have some experience with lisp from my time at the university and made several attempt's using other mode's as example but I have not managed to get it exactly as I wont it to work

I would like a variable name (attribute in KF) to light up only if it has been declared in the same file. This would be of great help to find misspelled variable names in a class.

The help looks something like this,

("\\<anchor\\>" (0 anchor-face) ("\\<item\\>" nil nil (0 item-face)))
-------------- --------------- ------------ --- --- -------------
| | | | | |
MATCHER ANCHOR-MATCHER | +------+ MATCH-HIGHLIGHT
MATCH-HIGHLIGHT PRE-MATCH-FORM |

If anyone has an example that is used in some other mode and could share that here I would be most grateful
