Xcdroast in rh9

I use redhat9 and I have problems with a freezing system when fixating or blanking a CDR-RW (I have already turned on the "Set SCSI IMMED flag"). Does anyone can help me? Thanks in advance.

I am most sorry to say that this is a known problem. The new Stock Red Hat kernel (and other Vanilla compiled kernels [aka 2.4.21]) and the cdrtools package, for some strange reason when it comes to return control to the system it ends on a freezing machine. In some systems upgrading the cdrtools package [i]may[/i work (the latest version [to the best of my knowledge] is 2.00.03). If you really need this functionality up and running, you must downgrade your kernel to version 2.4.20-9 or 2.4.20-8 (the installed stock kernel on Red Hat 9).

This problem is observed mainly on Athlon architectures (I don't have any computer with Intel) and on Red Hat 7.3 with kernel 2.4.20-13.7x upgrading glibc (to version 2.3.2), gcc (to version 3.2), and cdrtools (to version 2.00.3) solved the problem on an Athlon XP laptop. If you like you may check the redhat bugzilla for details on the problem.

I know this don't help much, but at least you know you are not alone :( Sorry to give you bad news...

Anyway I have been unable as of 22nd July to test the new 2.6.0-test1 kernel in this regard (I'm on vacation) and as soon as I get back to my computer, I'll let you know.
