Xawtv colour problem in Ubuntu 5.04

Hi all. :)

Ubuntu, what a fantastic distro. Well where can one go wrong when using Debian.

But alas, I do have a problem. I am trying to set up a webcam using a generic camera via 'Webcam' and the wonderful Xawtv.
I have had the same setup work on two previous distros, no problem.
With Ubuntu however, everything works(sic) except that the image I get from the camera is lacking the colour 'green'.
The thing is, it actualy worked for a little while before losing 'green' from the image and I have not been able to work out why.
I come here after weeks of trying to fix the problem myself and searching the net for answers.
I use the very same hardware etc. on Windose and works a charm(gulp).
Has anyone else had a similar problem or have any 'low level' suggestions as to what I might be missing.

man xawtv at the command prompt will give u alot of info........
i know for my version of xawtv
f5 - f12 keys control the color/contrast/brightness........
could be that u accidentally hit a key somewhere.....while using it........
or try moving the config file to config.old allowing xawtv to create a new one.......and see if it is an issue with that...

btw.......depending on what type of webcam you are using the drivers for someof them are still in alpha or beta....stage of development..........check the website of the driver to make sure your webcam is fully supported.......

Problem solvered!

Have solved problem. ^_^

Ubuntu, sigh!

In SYSTEM>PREFERENCES>MULTIMEDIA_SYSTEMS_SELECTOR
select the Video tab
then for Default Source select "Video For Linux 2".

Even though the "test" option did not work, my Webcam is now happy.
Try it if you like. :)

Just a followup to this one. I found after every reboot the problem would return.
Obviously a config problem here. This is the case with a couple of other applications as well.
Still investigating.

However, what I found was only a temporary fix. In fact what I actualy did to regain proper colour was to toggle the setting from V4L to V4L2 clicking on the 'test' button each time, even though I received an error, it did the job.

So source of actual problem is still under investigation. :)
