X11 on XP

Haven't managed to find an answer with the standard searches, so:

I know it's possible to have an X process running on one machine that displays on another - eg a GKrellM on a workstation that displays the load the server is running at.

But is there any software around that would allow me to run an X application remotely on a Windows XP machine? My girlfriend wants to be able to access software on my Slack box over our LAN from her XP machine..

Get Cygwin and install what you need. Cygwin is a GNU environment for Windows and it is very useful. Recent versions also provide XFree86 and related utilities, so you can load XFree86 running a window manager of your choice on her Windows installation and then SSH through an xterm (or rxvt or whatever xshell you use) using the -X switch to your Linux box and launch apps that will display on her local Windows box.

Alternatively...

My home setup is an XP Pro machine and a Linux machine. I used to have each on a monitor and a keyboard, but now I run an X Server on my PC and display my windows on there.

It works a treat, and looks really, really good.

I use Labtam's software (google for it...); it's not cheap, but it works well. (I used MI/X before that, and it - frankly - sucked.)

Cygwin, I use on occasion, and think is very clever, but so deeply difficult to get working right.

Regards,

Robert
