X windows terminates on hotkey

From X Windows, when I open another session (<ctl><alt><f2> and then hot key back <ctl><alt><f7> I get a momentary flash of multi colored pixels then return to the logon screen of X windows. It will switch between command line sessions without a problem.

I'm Running Fedora Core 6 on a Dell Optiplex GX 270 with one gig ram and a Seagate SATA 300 gig drive, otherwise it is a standard Dell.

Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions for the solution?

Unless you have changed your hotkeys from the default, it's Alt & F7 to switch back.

Davisgwin, have you checked your X log for any errors?

usually it's /var/log/Xorg.0.log if you're running Xorg

Can you post it here for us?

Thanks! I reviewed the log as you suggested. It told me to insert the ststement "DisplayInfo" "FALSE" in the configuration file.
On reboot it crashed the Xwindows and asked if I wanted to reconfigure. Upon my reply of yes it reconfigured itself and now works perfectly! Thanks again!

Thanks for your help. I tried it but the problem was in the Display configuration.

My version seems to work with either <ctl><alt><fn> or <alt><fn>. I read a HOWTO for the keyboard and it indicated that older versions used <alt><fn> while later versions use <ctl><alt><fn>. Mine must be in between!

Thanks for the suggestion anyway!
