Unhappy X Window's Leave Trails

I installed Mandrake 8.0 on my gateway solo 1150 laptop. Everthing goes fine and the install found the video card as a Silicon Motion Lynx (default) . Its really a Lynx 3dM but I think all Lynxs chips work with the same server. X starts but when the KDE logo shows up the logo's bottom portion is to far to the left. Its really wierd. When I open a window it looks ok but if your scroll the window it starts to leave trails and just scrambles up. The same thing happens if you move the window. If you maximize the window its refreshes the screen and its ok. But if you move it it happens again. The KDE menu works ok but if you try to send the tool bar off the screen and bring it back its traily and distorted. Could this be a problem with my refresh rate in the xfree86 config?

Silicon Motion Lynx 3DM
800 X 600
All color depthes tried with same results.
GateWay Solo 1150 Intel 550 Coppermine Celron
XFree86 4.1.0
Mandrake 8.0
Kernel 2.4

What to do? Where to go?

Your gonna want to check out www.xfree86.org for bugs, problems, maybe updated drivers. Also might want to check out www.linux-laptops.org for info on getting everything working right on your laptop.

I looked at both sites already, but there is no help there for me. I need to know how to adjust the refresh and vertical & horizonal sync rates in x.

found a reference XF86Config at http://engsvr.ust.hk/~eetwl95/m8300.html, and some text at http://www.bits.bris.ac.uk/madmatt/laptop.html HTH, maybe.
