X.org fatal IO error after upgrade

After upgrading Slackware from 10.0 to 10.1, I started getting the following error among all of X's bootup messages (X runs fine, but the message is displayed when it is closed):

Code:
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
A few searches showed quite a few hits discussing the message, but almost all of them were related to an actual crash, not just the message itself. Any ideas?
