X libraries or include files not found

Hello all

While trying to configure gtk+-1.2 in Red Hat 8.0 I got the following error.

checking for X... no
configure: error:
*** X libraries or include files not found. Check 'config.log' for
*** more details.

Can anyone tell me why is that?

Sorry, my memmory is a bit foggy so I had to look it up again. I had the same problem some time back (this is the sollution I got)

You should look for the XFree86-devel packages for your distro and version.
