X Install & Motherboard Problem
I have recently built 2 computers. They are identical except for the
motherboards used. Both boards are of the "integrated" type, having the Video, Networking and Modem functions implemented on board. One board is the K7SEM and the other is the M810LMR. Both are used with an identical 20 GB hard drive, both have the same brand of monitor and both use a Duron 750, I have installed RH 7.1 on both but have been able to get X working only with the K7SEM. When I run Xconfigurator on the M810LMR I get only so far into the process when the program halts and there is a report of a segmentation fault and a core dump. It seems strange that this process works for the K7SEM and bombs with the M810LRM. Both boards make use of the SiS 730 chip set so that is not the problem. I need to figure this out as X is needed on both machines. Any help would be appreciated! Joe |
I'm not familiar with either of the motherboards mentioned, so if you could list some specifics it might help. I hate to try for the easy answer, but have you tried swapping out the RAM?

Thanks for the interest.
I have RH 7.1 installed on the troubled machine. It works fine in text mode. I have the BIOS set to test memory at start-up so I doubt its a memory problem. Joe |
I was able to get X started!
On my troubled machine, I used Xconfigurator --noddcprobe --expert and it finally generated a XF86Config file that worked. I can't say why it finnaly worked or why other attemps failed but I glad to have this configuration stuff behind me. Joe |
glad you got things working... make sure you skim over your /etc/XF86Config file - you don't need to memorize it, but know which driver you're using, the mouse config, ect.
