X doesn't start

Code:
You must provide a "Screen" section in XF86Config for at least on of the following drivers: fbdev
This is strange, since I don't have a frame buffer device on this machine. I'm trying to use the svga server. When I change the driver to fbdev, I get the error that no fb0 device exists. Duh!

Why does it want a fbdev section in the file?

This is slackware 9.1 with X 3.3.6 from slackware 7.1... I had it working on slackware 9.0, and I don't know what is borked now.

I need the svga server. I'm doing this on a 486 75 with 24 MB of ram. Laptop.

I will be doing most everything in CLI, though I have a couple apps that need X. I'll be using fluxbox. It worked surprisingly well on 9.0.

You do have a screen section in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file, right? Here's my screen section.

Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier "VGA"
    Device "AOpen Geforce3 Ti200"
    Monitor "Compaq MV520"
    DefaultDepth 24

    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 8
        Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 16
        Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1024x768"
        ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
EndSection
Depending on what you name your other stuff, change the Device and Monitor lines accordingly. Here's my server layout.

Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Pwnz4g3 Layout"
    Screen "VGA"
InputDevice "M$ Wireless Intellimouse Explorer" "CorePointer"
    InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard"

EndSection
Change the Input device things as neccesary, of course. If you've already done that, then I suppose I'm perplexed.

Well, I tried 4.4, and that crashed and burned. I used the Xinstall.sh thing... is there an easy way to remove it?
