Unhappy X crashes when I exit programs

The subject pretty much says it all...sometimes, when I exit a program (by choosing the "quit menu option or clicking the title bar), X either freezes or resets. It always happens when I exit GAIM, and occasionally with other programs. Has anyone had this problem before? If I could solve it by reinstalling some software or deleting some configuration settings, I'd be happy.

My advice would be to uninstall GAIM and associated libraries and reinstall them. Somewhere there is a corrupt file crashing your system; obviously.
